Hemmeroids injections: The proctoscope is used with a syringe to inject about 2ml of phenolic oil at a time. The injection is not done into the hemorrhoid itself, but submuscular, just above the hemmoroids. Due to the toxicity of phenolic oil, there are some concerns when using it for hemmoroids treatment - but no problems have been reported. To be on the safe side though, pregnant women are not treated with this for hemmorroids. The hemmeroids treatment is done without anaesthatic, there should be no pain at all if the needle is inserted correctly.
The effect of the hemmroids injection will not be visible immediately, it will take a few days. After that, it usually last for several years and can be repeated if necessary.
Another method of treating hemmroids is to freeze the hemorrhoid so the hemmoroids tissue dies.
Sometimes a rubber band can be used around the hemorrhoid to stop the blood flow and get rid of hemorroids. This is called rubber band ligature and it is performed with a special instrument which will reach in and place the rubber band around the hemorrhoid. A maximum of 2-3 hemmorhoids should be treated at a time with hemmroids rubber band ligatures. The treatment is done without anaesthatic, there should be no pain if properly done. The hemorrhoids should fall off in 4-5 days and there is usually a small hemmeroids bleeding which will normally stop by itself.
External hemorrhoids are simply cut off and the risk of reappearance of those hemmroids is less than 10%. There are modern laser or electrocautery methods to get rid of hemroids (external as well as internal hemmorroids).
Infrared light. A 1- or 2-second burst of infrared light can cut off circulation to small, bleeding, internal hemorrhoids which makes it a good hemmoroids surgery method. Summary of surgery treatment for hemmroids.
